The TRUTH Awards ‘08: Giving Recognition While Raising Awareness
Award Show Weekend Kicks off With Great Causes
CHICAGO – (September 5, 2008) The Chicago music community has been looking forward to celebrating their best entertainers, TV, and radio personalities. The TRUTH Awards ’08, Chicago’s most respected and talked about entertainment event graces the weekend of October 10th-11th with events that will promote literacy, HIV awareness, and voter registration.
On Friday, October 10, 2008, at 6 p.m. the Chicago Department of Public Health, PHLI, the Hip Hop Credit Union Program, and the South Side Community Economic Development Center present the TRUTH 4 Literacy Fashion Gala supporting Hip Hop Against HIV. Great people are coming out to support and raise money for this cause. In an effort to try something different, books donated from the TRUTH 4 Literacy after school program will be sold and distributed to the youth emphasizing reading, writing, and communication skills.
Later, at 8 p.m., sponsors, nominees, and performing artists of The 8th Annual Hip Hop & R&B awards like: rap groups L.E.P. and Speed Knot Mobstaz, R&B songstress Syleena Johnson, along with newcomers Ben 1 and J. Hollis will compete in The TRUTH Celebrity Hip Hop Hoops Challenge benefiting The TRUTH 4 Literacy after school program.
Lastly, on Saturday, October 11, 2008, is The TRUTH Awards VIP Red Carpet Reception from 6-7 p.m. Watch Chicago’s best rip up the red carpet, doing interviews, and greeting fans. The TRUTH Awards show will begin promptly at 7 p.m..
