
The DJ has saved many lives spinning your hottest records and mixing your favorite hip hop, R&B or neo soul tracks, as you sweat the night away on the dance floor in a dark, smoke filled room with body’s' banging side to side. At some point between the deep base bouncing off the walls, you realize how important the DJ is, and the people behind the beats.
It's rare that a DJ finds his groove and steps from behind the turn-tables to master his own love for not just playing music, but making the beats that don't stop.
Music has always been an integral part of Mike James back drop. Growing up in a musical family and listening to his uncles and Jazz Hall of Famers, Arthur Prysock and Red Prysock; you could say that music was always in the air.
At the age of 15, he began to DJ at local parties, honing his craft over 15 years until he was one of the most sought after spin artists in town.
After completing his education in audio engineering, he had an opportunity to work with various artists such as…..Al Jarreau, Bryan McKnight, R. Kelly, Jill Scott, Eric Roberson, Melanie Fiona, Common, Doug E Fresh, and Trey Songz.
His interest in music and his connections to the behind-the-scenes local music industry, led him to a position in promotions at Warner Bros Records. It was there that he learned the business side of the Industry, and worked with such nationally renowned artists as….Quincy Jones, Tevin Campbell andTamia, to name a few.
He always knew that eventually he would record his own music, and when the inspiration came, he answered the call with music to soothe the soul. With his debut release of underground sensation“Imagine This” and now his second effort, a kaleidoscope of genres for every music palette — HIM, released in December 2010, is already garnering attention from the music industry and tastemakers alike.
